Technology Tips

Devices are a key part of daily learning for 3rd–5th graders at Kent Elementary. To ensure your child gets the most out of their school-issued device—and to avoid unnecessary replacement costs—we need your help setting up good habits at home. Please review these essential tips for keeping technology safe, charged, and ready to learn.

  • Charge Device Each Night
    • It is important that your child brings their fully charged device to school each day.  We encourage students to keep their charger at home and find a safe place to charge their device every night. It may be helpful to keep the device in their backpack while it charges to avoid forgetting it at home.
  • Use Device for Educational Use
    • Only download teacher approved apps and extensions.  Certain apps or too many apps can cause lag or other problems with day to day use.
  • Use Device in Family Room
    • Limiting device use to a family room can make monitoring your child's online behavior easier.  Keeping technology out of the bedroom can also help kids get a better night's sleep.
  • Store Device in a Bag or Waterproof Pouch:
    • Damage from leaky water bottles typically leads to a full device replacement fee up to $450.  Make sure lids are on tight and consider using a waterproof pouch or bag for your child's device. Even a gallon ziploc bag or recycled plastic amazon mailer can help.
Keep Device Away from Food and Drink:
    • Encourage your child to put their device away while eating/drinking.  Again, liquid damage typically cannot be repaired and leads to a replacement fee up to $450. Crumbs can cause issues with the keyboard working properly.  Wash hands before returning to your device.

Thank you for helping your child take care of their school device! A daily routine—charging overnight, keeping liquids away, and staying in shared family spaces—goes a long way toward a successful school year.
